HEAT TREATMENT AND PROCESSES

Heat treatment

Heat Treatment Process Temperature (°C) Details
Annealing 850-900 Heat uniformly, hold until soaked, cool slowly in furnace.
Stress Relieving 600-700 Heat to specified temperature, hold for 2 hours, then air cool.
Hardening (Step 1) 450 - 500 Preheat uniformly, hold until soaked.
Hardening (Step 2) 850 - 900 Heat uniformly, hold until soaked, quench in oil, salt bath, or air. Austenitise at a temperature suitable for chosen working hardness.
Tempering 540-600 Reheat, hold for at least one hour per inch of thickness, air cool.
Applications
  • Cutting tools in machining operations

  • Sendzimir rolls

  • Segment and circular cutters

  • Profile cutting tools
