Toolman Special Steels is proud to produce and offer T42 (1.3207) - a proprietary tungsten high speed steel containing 10 percent cobalt. T42 is harder than most high-speed steels and has in addition a reasonably good toughness. T42 is used mainly for tools requiring maximum abrasion resistance and medium toughness.

HEAT TREATMENT AND PROCESSES
Heat treatment
Process | Temperature (°C) | Details |
---|---|---|
Soft Annealing | 800-860°C | Heat to 800-860°C, cool slowly in furnace. Maximum Brinell hardness of 300. |
Stress Relieving | 600-650°C | Heat to 600-650°C, hold for 1 hour, air cool. Reduces machining stresses to prevent distortion. |
Hardening | 1200-1230°C | Harden from 1200-1230°C followed by quenching in oil, air, or a warm bath at 540°C. Hardness after quenching: 64-66 HRC. |
Tempering | 540-570°C | Temper at 540-570°C at least twice for 65-67 HRC. Hardness after tempering: 64-67 HRC. |
